Other than former Senator John Edwards no one active in the political scene is really addressing poverty. Unfortunately other than the blog no one is giving this critical problem any coverage. Lou Dobbs of CNN comes the nearest with the embattled middle class series he keeps pounding. The current official poverty level, for a family of four is 19,157.00. The near poverty candidate is a family of four ,if doubled, is 38,314.00. We currently have 37 Million officially in poverty.There are maby reasons for a family to be poverished. lack of education--no health insurance--unchanged minimum wage--illegal aliens driving wages down are a few of the culprits. However to me the bigger problem is still ahead of us as this administration continue to enhance the wealthy. There are 54 Million earning between 19,000.00 and 38000.00. And as often is said one catastrophy from loosing it all. Raising health costs--employers raising the employee's contribution--a loss of one of the families job closing of factories in the automotive industry--high gasoline prices, any one of these can place another family into poverty. Not to mention the latest emeny FORCLOSURES. They increased 72% percent in 2005, including 38 percent in the last quarter. During the first quarter of this year they are traveling to be 1.2 million. This along with the average middleclass family has a debt ratio of 108.4 percent of their income. With wages basically being flat since 2001 how do they hold on to their assets. SO IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THE ONLY RECIPENT TO OUR BOOMING ECONOMY IS----POVERTY
